FCT IPAC Commends INEC for Smooth CVR Exercise, Calls for Further Extension.
The Inter- Party Advisory Council, FCT has lauded the Commission’s successful conduct of the just suspended CVR exercise in the FCT. The Chairman of the Council, FCT, Alh. Ibrahim Koko Kuje, extended this appreciation to the Commission when he led the executive members of IPAC, FCT on a working visit to the Commissioner, INEC-FCT, Malam Aminu Kasimu Idris on Monday, 13th October, 2025.
The IPAC Chair also thanked the Commission for being sensitive to the plea of the public and the Council by its approval of the four(4) days extension of the exercise. He contended that the period of the extension provided more eligible Nigerians in the FCT the opportunity to register and also undertake other functions during the exercise.
He, however, pleaded for more time for the CVR exercise in the FCT. This he said would provide enough time for the registration of more citizens ahead of the February, 2026 Area Council Elections in the FCT.
In his response, the Hon. Commissioner thanked IPAC for the visit and the support the Commission had enjoyed from the Council. He noted that the outcomes of the successful party’s primaries and the just suspended CVR exercise in the FCT are a result of the strategic partnership between INEC and major election stakeholders in the FCT, including IPAC.
The Commissioner stressed that as much as the Commission would like to extend the timeline for the CVR exercise, its activities are strictly regulated by the law with relevant timeframes, including the CVR. He said that the Commission needs the 90 days window as provided by the 2022 Electoral Act to carry out statutory procedures necessary to process voters’ information from the CVR to produce credible register of voters and PVCs ahead of the Area Council Elections scheduled for February, 2026.
